StoryMakers: Indigenous American 250 Summer Internship 

The StoryMakers Internship is a six-week highly collaborative experience which includes two weeks on-site in Philadelphia. It is open to individuals exploring career opportunities that require familiarity with archival sources and Native American and Indigenous Studies methods. No prior experience with archival research is required.

This hybrid program is a paid internship that requires a commitment of 35 hours per week. Interns will participate in online sessions, work independently and collaboratively, and have hands-on experiences conducting guided research. This opportunity supports community members, scholars, students, and individuals who want to acquire or expand on research skills, prepare for advanced study in graduate programs, and bring research back to tribal communities. 

This immersive archival research internship is ideal for:

  • People who are 18 to 30 years old (35 with veteran status)

  • Members or descendants of tribal nations who are interested in archival research

  • Current undergraduate or graduate students

  • Students and scholars of Native American and Indigenous Studies, History, American Studies, Museum Studies, Anthropology, Education, Political Science, Recreation and Park Management, etc.

Successful applicants will:

  • Learn archival research techniques

  • Conduct collaborative and independent research both online and in-person

  • Contribute to community-engaged research projects

  • Work with Native American and Indigenous Studies (NAIS) academic experts, community knowledge holders, and National Park Service leaders

  • Study NAIS theories and methods

  • Uncover historical records, stories, translations, and treaties related to Early American History

  • Reclaim Indigenous stories and understandings in colonial America

  • Generate case studies to inform the Indigenous America 250 Initiative

  • Collaborate with a highly engaged cohort both online and in-person


Eight interns will be selected for this program scheduled to start on July 7, 2025 and complete on August 15, 2025.

Please note interns are expected to commit 35/hours per week and will receive a stipend and travel reimbursement to/from Philadelphia from July 19-August 2. Full participation is required
